Jakarta (UNAS) – Universitas Nasional (Unas) Indonesia and the University of Malaya (UM) Malaysia have agreed to a comprehensive cooperation covering student mobility, double degree graduation, joint supervision, visiting lecturers, matching grant funding, research collaboration, and holding joint international conferences. This agreement was signed at an event held on December 12, 2024, at the University of Malaya campus.
This event also included various academic activities and ceremonies, including the signing of the cooperation, the International Seminar on the Malay Tribe, the presentation of souvenirs, and a joint lunch session.
On that occasion, the Vice Chancellor for Research & Innovation of the University of Malaya, Professor Ir. Dr. Kaharudin Dimyati received a textbook entitled “Research Methodology” by Dr. Iskandarsyah Siregar, PhD. The book is considered important as a reference for students and researchers because it provides important tools for developing a robust research methodology.
International Seminar on the Malay Archipelago. The International Seminar on the Malay Archipelago, which was part of this event, presented seven keynote speakers from various scientific fields, namely: (1) Prof. Sabzali Musa Kahn, (2) Prof. Indirawati Zahid, (3) Iskandarsyah Siregar, Ph.D.(4) Dr. Fachruddin Mangunjaya, (5) Dr. Wawat Rahwati, S.S., M.Hum., (6) Gagih Pradini, S.Par., M.M. and (7) Dr. Samsur Rijal bin Yahaya.
This seminar confirmed the commitment of both institutions to advance academic studies related to the Malay Archipelago and strengthen cross-country scientific relations.
As a form of initial commitment to research collaboration, Iskandarsyah Siregar, Ph.D. and Prof. Sabzali Musa Kahn have succeeded in compiling scientific articles and Fine Arts-based therapy modules. This work is expected to provide a significant contribution to visual therapy and encourage further research collaboration between Unas and UM.
In his remarks, Prof. Ir. Dr. Kaharudin Dimyati emphasized the full support of the University of Malaya for this strategic collaboration. “We welcome the collaboration between the National University and the University of Malaya. This collaboration not only enriches the academic world of both parties, but also contributes to strengthening the capacity and quality of the wider community,” he said.
UNAS and UM affirm their commitment to continue to encourage productive programs that are beneficial for the development of human resources and the advancement of science in the Southeast Asia region.
This collaboration is expected to be the first step towards broader and more sustainable collaboration in the future.
The collaboration between UNAS and UM marks an important milestone in strengthening its position as a globally focused higher education institution. Through this collaboration, both universities aim to make substantial contributions to the scientific community and promote sustainable academic collaboration that will benefit the region and the world at large.
